Farming refers to the ability of planting seeds, trees or plants to gain additional food and coins.

The player can choose between plants, which will return different amounts of coins and food. The plants have to be bought from the market and will return up to the double of spent coins and 1 to 4 food items as well as xp points.

Plants Edit

All plants require a certain amount of time to be fully grown after being planted. The player must harvest them, after that time within the same amount of time. Otherwise they will become withered.

In case if strawberries, which are grown after 5 minutes, they must be harvested within another 5 minutes after or they wither. Therefore plants with longer growing times are less dependent on available Energy.

All plants wither, it is important to keep in mind that the time-to-wither is the same as the time it takes the plant to become harvestable. For example, 5 minutes after a Strawberry plant is ready to harvest, it will wither; for a cabbage this figure is 3 days.

Energy Cost is the energy needed in one hour to harvest (theoretically) the max number of Plant. Any Plant need 1 Energy point to harvest, so:

$Energy Cost = {{60} \over {Minutes to Harvest}}$

Based on these figures, Corn is the best plant to give a good return of both coin and food(1). Harvest time is 2 hours for corn and you get 3 food and 50 profit. Strawberries would give a better return but you would have to be at your computer a lot of the time and energy would become an issue if you planted a large crop. I have also played around with the figures for the apple tree as once planted you do not have replant, so in effect it has a continuous profit.

(1) This assumes that you must wait until harvesting to plant more, which is generally false. Usually such a situation arises from lack of funds. If funds are unlimited, planting purely cabbage is the most lucrative strategy in money and food because a player can plant a continuous stream of cabbage (probably once every 2 hours or so) and in 3 days will have a continuous stream of cabbage harvesting, far eclipsing the income of any other vegetable, including the 'Super Crop.' It is also worth noting that a cabbage will became harvestable at the same time of day it was planted and has a longer time-to-wither, making planning when to log on and harvest much more manageable.

(2) Profit/hour is misleading because it also does not take into account the constraints of limited energy.

(3) Seedlings will wither when left unharvested. This will happen once the same time it took to grow passes. So you will need to keep an eye out on the crops you have. Withering does not happen with trees and with crops at the neighbor place of Rob.
